It's for this reason alone that I can't give it five stars - you'll need the comic with you to get the most out of this otherwise recommended production. The hero is a (somewhat groovy) super agent who journeys to various parallel Earths in a semi-mystical struggle against the Disruptors, a shadowy high-tech group trying to bring about their own ideal timeline. There are breathtaking architectural vistas, sumptuously detailed scenes of glamour or squalor, grandiose alternative-world war machines lovingly rendered. Su influencia puede sentirse en la mayoría de autores británicos que fueron parte de la llamada invasión británica en el cómic estadounidense. A tenth issue titled “ ARKeology” was created due to the requests of obsessive fans who rightfully wanted to learn more about the history, production, and background of the characters.

It definitely reads like something that was cut up and remastered and fiddled with over years and the first third at least is this wild impenetrable fog of captions and timestamps. Page 22 lists the different technological eras, ranging from the pre-industrial (roughly the late 1700s / early 1800s) through to the Nanotechnology and Spacefaring.Talbot is one of my favourite creators, and a few of his later works are some of the greatest comics ever made, but Arkwright's first volume at least is a real curate's egg for me. This new artwork was also used in the French edition by Kymera Comics and was the basis for the 2006 webcomic release in the official fan page. This graphic novel was released in the late 90s, but it is a collection of individual issues released in the late 80s/early 90s, featuring a character who debuted in the mid 70s.

Everything is covered by the percentile mechanic - including stats - which is where the bad part comes in, because character generation is a real headache. A reality-spanning tale about psychic operatives attempting to save the multiverse from the depredations of a force they don't really understand, it took on the trappings of Moorcockian sci-fi and blended it with a bundle of Eastern philosophies, magickal theories and a good helping of William Blake's apocalyptic poetry for good measure. When our daring dashing romping rutting (and quite dull) protagonist finally settles on a single reality - a hellish puritan dictatorship - things pick up a little and the momentum that builds into the frenetic action packed finale is a remarkable achievement.Bryan Talbot's magnum opus that was over a decade in the making is a dense and psychedelic affair but after all the mountains of hype I found it left me rather cold. even though it fit perfectly with the narrative, and even though they included 11 unnecessarily repeated pages.
