While the perfect building material probably doesn't exist, drywall is about as close as they come. In addition to being extremely affordable, drywall doesn't require any specialized equipment to install and can be done by anyone with access to basic tools and information. For the Drywall Calculator, input the values of the Room Length, Room Width, and Room Height then choose the units of measurement from the drop-down menu. The porosity of the board—introduced during manufacturing to reduce the board's weight, lowering construction time and transportation costs—enables water to rapidly reach the core through capillary action, where mold can grow inside. Water that enters a room from overhead may cause ceiling drywall tape to separate from the ceiling as a result of the grooves immediately behind the tape where the drywall pieces meet becoming saturated. The drywall may also soften around the screws holding the drywall in place, and with the aid of gravity, the weight of the water may cause the drywall to sag and eventually collapse, requiring replacement.

Drywall is one of the cheapest building materials on the market, which makes it an easy and convenient option for beginner DIY projects. Any mistakes you make will only cost you a few pounds, and corrections are easy to apply. The Hanging ProcessThis is usually made of paper but is strong enough to hold two drywall sheets firmly together. The process includes soaking the tape in drywall mud first before pasting them on the joints between the drywall sheets, then letting them dry. The first step is to work out the square foot area of the sheet you want to figure out the weight of, with a 4-foot by 8-foot sheet having an area of 32 square feet, for example (calculated by multiplying the two dimensions together).

The final step is to multiply the sheet area (32 square feet, in this case) by the weight per square foot (2.4 lbs/ft ² for this example) to give a sheet weight of approximately 76.8 lbs. Calculate the length and width of the room with a measuring tape. These dimensions should be approximately the same as the ceiling dimensions. You can solve for the ceiling’s square footage using these dimensions too. For the Area Under Sloped Walls, input the values of the Number of Triangular Spaces, Base of Triangular Space, and Height of Triangular Space to get the value of the Total Area Under Sloped Walls. If you opt for a more expensive version of the tape, you can buy the fiberglass type. This costs more but is easier to apply as it’s self-adhesive and it’s more durable too. The different panel sizes have their own advantages and disadvantages. For instance, you can accomplish projects faster using bigger boards as they cover more footage in your wall. But they’re harder to work with because of their size, weight, and low maneuverability. Panel made of gypsum, used in interior construction Various sized cuts of 1⁄ 2in (13mm) drywall with tools for maintenance and installation Always remember the golden rule of obtaining at least three quotes before selecting your drywalling company of choice.
