Mark Smotroff is an avid vinyl collector who has also worked in marketing communications for decades. Shroeder's affinity for Beethoven gives the album a natural gravitation towards classical and there is a version of Für Elise on Side B. And, with that latter sentiment in mind, I — and all of us here at AnalogPlanet — send each and every one of you best wishes for a very happy holiday season! Ever since its debut in 1965, the Vince Guaraldi Trio's album A Charlie Brown Christmas has reigned as a Yuletide classic.

One of the most beloved and iconic holiday albums of all-time, this best-selling perennial classic continues to introduce generations of children to the joys of jazz, year after year, with songs like 'Christmas Time Is Here' and the instantly recognizable 'Linus and Lucy. The super deluxe, 2LP and single CD editions follow on 2 December (was 14 October), via Craft Recordings. This new edition of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” takes the listener just that extra bit closer to being there in the studio with the musicians who recorded it. Thus, the new vinyl lacquers were cut from that digital source (and more on that point in a moment).Though much of his legacy is tied to his association with the PEANUTS animated specials, Guaraldi had already made a name for himself in the jazz world with his 1962 LP, Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus , by the time he was tapped to score A Boy Named Charlie Brown . I’ll admit, it sure looks super-nifty — but I have to tell you, it is so very, very noisy that I can hardly play it.

I chose this version, as the stamper labels are the same, but it has the reissue cover art Vince Guaraldi Trio - A Charlie Brown Christmas. With such iconic tracks as "Christmas Time is Here" and the instantly recognizable "Linus and Lucy", the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas remains the second–best-selling jazz title in history, and was certified 4x platinum by the RIAA in late 2016. Consider the 21st Century reality that, if there was a possibility of creating a fresh and improved stereo master from the original multitrack tapes, it is no doubt in the best interest of Vince Guaraldi’s musical legacy to preserve those recordings before the tapes disintegrate any further. The super deluxe offers more than 50 never-before-heard outtakes from five recording sessions and features both mixes of the album on CD 1. Truth is, I purged my old vinyl copy of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” many years ago when I got the SACD version.

Made to play on the RSD3 mini-turntable, the RSD3 A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS “BLIND BOX” single comes in an outer box that reproduces the original 12” album art, and includes one of four possible songs; “Christmas Time is Here (Vocal),” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “Linus and Lucy” and “Skating. He had one of the early versions without the sides listed on the labels and I paid no mind to the side serials under the word STEREO. This popular album always seems to have been played a great deal on less-than-perfect turntables over the years, and probably mainly on those poorly aligned automatic record changers that were all the rage in the mid-1960s on into the ’70s. We have about a dozen varied Christmas CDs from various artist pop CDs to jazz piano via Sinatra and Buble: all are good. Craft Recordings kindly sent me a copy of the proper new 180g 2LP edition for this review, and I’m happy to report it’s generally a great listening experience.

A native of San Francisco, Vince Guaraldi remains one of America’s most beloved and best-selling jazz artists. For a long time now, I have had the feeling there were seemingly a bazillion different versions of Vince Guaraldi’s beloved jazz soundtrack to the timeless “A Charlie Brown Christmas” 1965 TV special out there in the wilds of record collecting. And bear in mind, in the case of old Fantasy titles, colored vinyl is more authentic as the old Guaraldi, Tjader, etc.The beloved Peanuts animated special from which it sprang was a sensation the first time it aired on CBS-TV, and so was its cool soundtrack by the veteran Bay Area pianist, which introduced countless children to the joys of jazz. Like Jenney, Guaraldi died young, and, like Jenney, he played with a succession of names more likely to crop up in jazz history books and documentaries than his own: in Guaraldi’s case, Stan Getz, Ben Webster and Woody Herman. Perhaps that’s the reason for A Charlie Brown Christmas’s longevity, and indeed the reason there’s a market for yet another deluxe edition – seemingly an annual occurrence at this point – which packs out four CDs with enough alternative takes to satisfy even the most obsessive fan.

Black Orpheus catapulted Guaraldi into wide recognition, and the track “ Cast Your Fate to the Wind” became an instant hit, topping jazz and pop charts, and winning a 1963 GRAMMY ® Award. Also consider, as we have been reaffirming regularly here on AP — especially given The Beatles remixes in recent years — that no one from the big bad record companies will be sneaking into your homes and sifting through your record collections in the middle of the night to steal your original pressings. A perfect blend of classical, Christmas, and Jazz this is definitely something you need to give an Xmas Day spin. I have this version (CR 00061) and the 2021 silver foil version (F- 8431) and this version sounds 100 times better. The soundtrack album remains the second-best-selling jazz title in history, and was certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA in late 2016. Plus, it's housed in a replica of the original cover, with tip on artwork and nice, heavy cardboard. Auch meinen Eltern gefiel die Musik sehr gut und wir haben sie nicht nur Heiligabend, sondern auch noch am 2. A great pressing, although surface noise is a bit frequent (I can only assume this is due to the lo-fi production of the album), although spindle holes are a bit too small, the color of the record isn't too appealing (but for anyone who prefers any color over an average black it's totally fine), and I feel like the packaging could be a bit better.
