In high school, she challenged herself with to-do lists full of risk-taking items, like "hug a random boy" and "eat a cricket," which inspired her debut novel, Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry . With a powerful subplot about Monique’s estranged sister, and a host of fabulous female characters, including the gynaecologist who states, “No woman should have to go without care. She’s in a relationship with the love of her life, Dom, the church drummer and a guy her father loves and respects. But in doing so, she must face some home truths: maybe she shouldn't be fixing her body to please a boy, maybe Sasha is the friend she needed all along and maybe Reggie isn't so bad at all.

Okay, so this is one of those books where I appreciated what it was trying to do more than what it actually did do. This is also the first YA book I've read that tackles "vagina problems" in the first place, so it makes me especially sad that I didn't like it more. Now, I was going to wait until closer to the publication date to read this but I decided to treat myself to this book.Applicability of cancellation rights: Legal rights of cancellation under the Distance Selling Regulations available for UK or EU consumers do not apply to certain products and services.

After reading “excuse me while I ugly cry” I was so excited to read your second debut and I was not disappointed. The flow was excellent from beginning to end and thought the arc of Monique, her parents, her friends, were well done. I quite literally just finished reading this maybe five minutes ago so this is me rambling, but wow, what a lovely book! The friendships and sisterhood shown in this book was so needed and I loved how by the end of this it wasn’t just focused on the romance but about curating an entire community. Along the way she makes new friends and begins to unpack assumptions she has made and her own sexual hangups.

The hotly anticipated second book from Joya Goffney, author of the 2021 YA romcom Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry. If Joya Goffney is going to do one thing in her books, it includes healthy, open communication consistently. My mum has expressed to me her regrets for the way she parented me throughout the earlier stages of my life and though we have all grown and evolved, sometimes, unfortunately, those chages take place too late.

The Romance was lovely to watch blossom, sometimes the person who you least expect, to be the most supportive, turns out to be the rock you never knew you needed! Goffney's fearless story about the path to self acceptance and the unexpected people who help on the journey is the perfect antidote to purity culture. I also wish the author had mentioned that sex isn't even necessary as part of a teen's coming of age. My spouse had similarly limited knowledge and we didn't have friends we could really ask, so we kind of had to figure it out on our own.
