Description

In Nothing Ventured, William Warwick begins his career with London's Metropolitan Police Force, moving from his early months on the beat to his first big case with Scotland Yard's Art and Antiques squad. The man Harry believes to be his father was a war hero, but it will be 21 years before Harry discovers how he died, and if he was indeed his father. With an insider feeding Faulkner's plans, Warwick and Hogan's duty transcends routine — they're on a mission to prevent the crime of the century. Their hitherto smooth operations have hit a snag — Miles Faulkner, a wily criminal mastermind, has charted an audacious theft that could upend history itself. Chief Superintendent William Warwick and his trusty comrade Inspector Ross Hogan, seasoned pros in guiding prized Crown Jewels through the labyrinth of London, face a conundrum.

Stan Tancock - Maisie Clifton's brother and Arthur Clifton's best friend and co-worker, a high-functioning alcoholic. Clifton forges ahead to make a name for himself, while living under the shadow of never having met his father. You will be taken on a journey that you won’t want to end, but when you turn the last page of this unforgettable yarn, you will be faced with a dilemma that neither you, nor Harry Clifton, could have anticipated. A moment later my father got up and left the room, without even saying goodbye to Giles and his guests. The author attempts to end every chapter with some sort of mysterious tease, clearly intended to make the reader curious but it gets annoying after a bit because it always ends in predictable anti-climax.

The struggles of his mother to finance Harry’s upbringing (his father is dead) are particularly engrossing, and the intrigue of Harry’s father’s circumstances add an element of suspense to this entertaining novel, which ends with a bombshell of a cliffhanger! From the docks of working-class England to the bustling streets of 1940 New York City, Only Time Will Tell takes readers on a journey through to future volumes, which will bring to life one hundred years of recent history to reveal a family story that neither the reader nor Harry Clifton himself could ever have imagined.

I have seen books where each section tells the next part of the story, and I have seen books where each section tells the same story from multiple perspectives.I still don't know if I want to read the rest of the Clifton-Saga too, because I prefer single novels. The author goes to great lengths to convince us that yes, the Main Character is indeed a brilliant child/man with unseen depths and superb intellect. Lots of characters told porkies along the way and I was on my guard from early on that what they said could not be taken as gospel. But after he is expelled he gets caught up in an international incident that could put his life in jeopardy . Jeffrey Archer hits it out of the park with this epic tale of a young boy trying, with the help of his friends and family, to make his life something no less than extraordinary.
