My heart broke to read about all those complex emotions in her, which transported me back to those uncertain months following the birth of my oldest, when I was a nervous and paranoid wreck. Though to be fair, sometimes they just don’t know any better, and their minds are still not developed enough to understand why the world just can’t go their way and why simply being a pain in the ass won’t get them what they want. However, I can only say very little about Little Darlings because too much backstory about folklore might 1) cause your eyelids to droop, 2) make you think I’m a little batty (you wouldn’t be entirely wrong), and 3) most importantly, give entirely too much away. Jacqueline's books include The Story of Tracy Beaker, which has become a hugely successful BBC TV series; Girls in Love, which together with its two sequels was filmed for ITV television; and Double Act, which she adapted for Channel 4 and which won the Royal TV Society's Best Children's Fiction Award. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Riveting, terrifying and at times heartbreaking…Melanie Golding’s disturbing portrait of a new mother’s paranoia is superbly written, cleverly plotted and gruesomely beautiful in an unforgettable way.

As I mentioned before, this isn't as much of a thriller to me as it is a dark literary work inspired by folklore elements.

My faveourite character is destiny and mum because they never give upand they just keep on trying to fing destiny’s father Danny Kilman.

As time passes she begins to accept her daughter, and underneath her mask of a perfectly alright girl, Sunset begins to see somebody who has sensitivity too and is just as hurt by the situation as she is.

Harper jumps to quick assumptions, makes impulse decisions, and is clearly willing to believe what seems plausible to no one else. Danny and his second wife had three children, Sunset, Sweetie and Ace, they were very rich and lived in a landed property with three servants, but Danny wasn't really on good terms with Lucy. Golding has done a fantastic job of this novel and it was a chilling horror that you never really know what was real and what was just Lauren's imagination. He displays affection to Sunset in front of the cameras, however, in real life he abuses her and often tells her that he wishes she were more like his beloved daughter, Sweetie. He can be a firm character occasionally, but he shows care for Destiny when she succeeds, and even becomes ever so slightly emotional after her beautiful singing. I can't quite believe how selfish Sunset's mother was as she put what she wanted before her children's needs. It is an absolutely beautiful heartwarming story about a girl who hasnt ever met her dad and it is a race for her to find out who her dad is however on the other side of the country is his present wife who is trying to keep him and the Kids away…. I loved the flick between ‘is Lauren suffering from postpartum psychosis’ and the paranormal-folklore aspects of ‘is something spookier happening’. However, when their family's turmoil forces her to leave, she shows a lot of maturity and compassion, especially towards dear Sunset.
