Like you stated…according to the list it should be a later press but it is misprinted on label and jacket. There is a record which is perfect to test the theory, on which lots of matrix information has been collected by record sellers, to see how well it explains and dates the manufacture of Columbia records – the immortal Kind of Blue.

Co-produced by Zev Feldman and David Weiss, the audio was newly transferred from the original 1/4″ tape reels. Davis played trumpet sublime with his ensemble sextet featuring pianist Bill Evans, drummer Jimmy Cobb, bassist Paul Chambers, and saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian “Cannonball” Adderley with Wyton Kelly playing piano on “Freddy the Freeloader.Like the mono matrices, a few early alphas are found in my six-eye stereo sample, all 1A/1B, the next “oldest” was 1J/1H. Kind of Blue: Legacy Edition – which includes final LP tracks, and all known alternate takes, studio sequences, and one false start — celebrates a masterwork and its prelude, offering the only other studio sides we have by Davis’ sextet, and a later live recording, illustrating how this band evolved and where they were headed on their journey toward immortality.

This 180-gram stunner pressed at Quality Record Pressings is nearly peerless as a Southern rock record. Designed to bring the focus back on the groove and bottom-end frequencies, the funk-loaded On the Corner revolutionized jazz. Columbia was a major, not the sort of small operator that would “use up” wrong labels to save money. Some sellers claim their copy has a “misprint” merely because the Side 2 label is the corrected one, at odds with the cover track list. The instruments sit in the very space that we know them to be in (which sounds obvious but is far from always being the case). All inserts are printed on high quality art board and include a track and information sheet for each reel, and a technical specification and quality control sheets for each reel, which even going as far as including the original Recording the Masters tape serial number labels.

There are 1200 possible unique s1/s2 matrix pairings, multiplied by at least ten variables (promo/regular; label misprint/correct; mono/stereo;six-eye/other label, inner sleeve type, typography) that is tens of thousands of unique possibilities.A first rate orchestra (The Boston Pops), a distinguished conductor (Arthur Fiedler), and a superb pianist (Earl Wild) combine to make this landmark recording something to be treasured. First, as is well documented, the tapes are running at correct speed – something that wasn’t noticed for several years (1992 or so I believe). The reels are elegantly machined in orange anodised aluminium, each engraved and painted with the text. Pietro confirmed that his source, the Ermitage production master, is in fact a first generation copy of the ‘back-up’ correct-speed original master. We’ve taken this classic and given it the full Analogue Productions reissue treatment, featuring a remaster by Germany’s Willem Makkee from the original analog tapes, and plating and 180-gram pressing by Quality Record Pressings.

Well, apart from the obvious legal issues (and the fact that big guns like Sony / Columbia tend to come down on perpetrators like a ton of bricks), the key issue for me is quality.

Long held as the jazz album that even non-jazz fans will own, Kind Of Blue not only changed the way people regarded Miles, it changed the very face of music itself. In fact, this is something that this tape brings out more than any other version of the album that I’ve heard. There are around 1,000 copies a year coming to auction, that would be 1% of total, not an unreasonable ballpark figure. There's also the matter of its status as the most-referenced, and arguably, most important, jazz recording of all-time.
