However, it’s not a story to ignore and I thought the way the two narratives were presented were as immersive and emotional as if I had been the protagonists themselves. Of course when the year is up and they are supposed to meet again, things don’t go the way they’re supposed to and there are broken hearts on both sides.

Fate decides to play a funny hand when Ben walks into the same restaurant and finds the one that got away. They make the most of the time that they have together and arrange to meet up a year later, but it never happens. I think Lucas did a wonderful job explaining how abuse can take on more than one form and how one can be blind to see it.During that time she has published 27 books and has won numerous awards, including a Romantic Novel Award, and chalked up a no. It isn’t always pleasant, the opening couple of chapters are just a smoke screen, lulling you into a false sense of security before you’re dropped back down to earth and taken on a 400 page rollercoaster filled with every range of emotion you can think of. I didn’t totally agree with her decision making towards the end of the story, but I think her heart was in the right place and she more than redeemed herself. But life is about to take them in different directions, and so they agree to meet next July, in the beautiful hidden garden where they first laid eyes on each other.

Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). This book shows that even in the darkest of times you can always find happiness when you don’t expect it. The author has done a fantastic job in writing a storyline that deals with sensitive issues such as domestic violence and coercive and controlling behaviour. The only clue to her past is the silver bee necklace she wears – the very same one Ben bought for Lili that magical summer’s day.Except, perhaps for portions of Part I, this book is not very happy and neither was I, when I read it. Fast forward five years, and Ben is living in Scotland, the guardian to his young niece after the death of his sister. We flash forward 5 years, Lili has amnesia and shows up in Ben's town 500 miles away and we slowly learn why they never met up.

It gave definite CoHo/TJR vibes (although this is a clean romance, so much is going on that you don’t even care). With thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is not just a failed romance story and I would urge readers to take a deep breath before plunging in to Lucas’s novel. I experienced goosebumps so frequently when I was reading this book and I don’t think it was because of the weather. The Justin scenes were so powerful and even hard to read at times it makes me sick that people actually go through these things.
