Description

When I was new to whisky years ago, I first learned of Oban because its 14-year-old single malt was one of the six Classic Malts of Scotland, a selection created by Diageo in 1988 and afterward mass-produced and distributed among on-sale locations across the United Kingdom. It works well as an accompaniment to seafood like oysters or smoked salmon, giving them new depths of flavour. The Oban distillery is one of Scotland's smallest distilleries with just two small lantern-shaped stills. Oban is a genuinely segregated refinery, roosted on the westernedge of the Scottish terrain at the extremely top of the Kintyre promontory.

We'll send them to be recycled and you'll save paper, carbon emissions and time at the recycling centre!Fine single malt whisky has been made in Oban for over 200 years, in one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery’s tours offer visitors the chance to witness the traditional craftsmanship of whisky production first-hand before enjoying complimentary drams of the Oban 14 year old West Highland Malt. Tasting Notes: Oban has a sweet peated nose with hints of burnt heather carried through to the palate with just a touch of creaminess. I’d prefer to think its popularity is because there is something about the fresh cleanliness of the nose, its orange oils, chocolate, and zesty-zingy and yes, occasionally salty spiciness that is instantly appealing.

The spirit is matured in a combination of American oak and European oak casks, which gives it a unique and complex flavour profile. There is also some cut wood and a little sweetness on the palate, with fruit and dried oak notes on the long finish. There’s a good malt backbone to it too, and a pinch of salt, before the oak spice picks up at the end of the sip.I’ve considered beer for those kinds of occasions, too, but it just feels too heavy in the stomach for me, haha! The tiny lantern-shaped copper pot stills are among the smallest in Scotland; their rich, fruity malt is then slowly condensed in wooden worm tubs that sit outside among the rooftops, before being aged in oak casks for at least 14 years. It is distilled from lightly-peated malt, aged in refill ex-Bourbon casks, chill-filtered, and bottled at 43% strength.
